What does it take to be a visionary?
Collins dictionary says synonyms for visionary are idealist, romantic, dreamer, daydreamer. This has a dismissive air. The world today has no time for idealists. Yet they also say You use visionary to describe the strong, original ideas of a visionary.
Strong Original Ideas. Let’s just just take a look at that. In a world stuck on fast forward and repeat , original thought is rare. I am referring to our leaders and their heads in the sand approach to life on this planet.
Whilst I can pick apart a million things that are wrong, I see that only serving to freeze us like a deer in the headlights keeping us doing more of the same as the task seems too overwhelming and we are afraid of being blamed or being too bold. And we know if we do what we have always done we will get more of what we have always had.
Colonisation, climate change, rampant addiction to growth and individualism. Where is the stop button as we quickly choke our planet, our home, our species.
I say it is time for the dreamers- unfettered by pragmatism, logic, strategy, factions, economy. In the climate crisis we are lurching towards, none of that will matter.
If we focus on what we CAN do, and just begin without waiting for others to approve or allocate dates, budgets and resources we might just break the systems that are stymied with inaction.
So I ask you to join me in thinking about a legacy for your grandchildren and future generations. What would be the ideal world for them to be inhabiting? We focus so much on the negatives and there is precious little bandwidth given to the possible and the vision for what could be.
I would love to hear your ideas and I am keen to incorporate these in future artworks to share with others.
My dream/vision is-
A world where the more than human have the same rights as human.
Communities of reciprocity. When we take from the earth we must give back.
I see a repair program for our waterways and terrestrial zones.
I see a wave of evolutionary human advancement in the development of our sense of community, collaboration, connectivity and taking guidance from the Indigenous Cultures of our world and the lessons learnt from history
I see a world that understands the connections between the non human world and humanity and understands we are dependent on each other.
I see a world where systems are no longer dominated by male developed ways of doing things where brinkmanship and statesmanship and strategy rule over collaboration and good for all.
I see an evolution of our brains to be able to create non confrontational dialogue, disdain for selfishness and power, movement to custodianship, appreciation of everyones innate gifts and roles for all.
I see clear skies at night, clean oceans, villages and towns and cities co-existing with nature. I see the end of fossil fuels, poisons that pollute the waters and skies. I see laughter at the notion of ‘greed is good’.
I see calmness, strength and compassion.
I see a charter of common global ethics.
What is your vision for the future?
